Standards for vessels operating international voyages are being developed within the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
    10. As regards Regulation (EC) No 417/2002, the Commission should be empowered to amend certain references to the relevant Regulations in MARPOL 73/78 and to Resolutions MEPC 111(50) and 94(46), in order to align the references with amendments to these Regulations and Resolutions adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), in so far as such amendments do not broaden the scope of that Regulation.
