- Since the basic measurement unit of all opacimeters is transmittance, the smoke values must be converted from transmittance (τ) to the light absorption coefficient (k) as follows:
- having a total transmittance of more than 55 % but not more than 65 %, determined by standard method JIS K7105 related to ASTM D1003 and
- ≤ 50 m2and Peak SPR ≤ 0,25 m2/ss1a s1 and transmittance in accordance with EN 61034-2 ≥ 80 %s1b s1 and transmittance in accordance with EN 61034-2 ≥ 60 % < 80 %s2 TSP1200 ≤ 400 m2and Peak SPR ≤ 1,5 m2/ss3 not s1 or s2
- Three neutral density filters of known transmittance, which must meet the requirements of annex 4, appendix 4, paragraph 5.2.5., must be introduced to the opacimeter and the value recorded.
- The transmittance of a 1 % solution in water determined in a 1 cm cell at 430 nm with a suitable spectrophotometer using water as a reference, is not less than 0,95, equivalent to an absorbance of not more than approximately 0,022.
- The transmittance of a 1 % solution in 2N hydrochloric acid, determined in a 1-cm cell at 430 nm with a suitable spectrophotometer, using 2N hydrochloric acid as a reference, is not less than 0,95, equivalent to an absorbance of not more than approximately 0,022
